Hints & Tips:
3. The Dress
This can be easy or difficult, depending on whether the Bride knows exactly what she wants, or has no idea!
Looking through magazines can give you inspiration, but better still, visit bridal shops and try dresses on. This is the best way to find a style that suits you. If you want your dress made, then visit several dressmakers until you find one who creates the sort of dress you are looking for.
The time of year in which you are to be married will play a major role in the type of dress you should consider. Perhaps long sleeves and a high neck for winter, and sleeveless in a lighter material for summer.
Traditionally, the dress would be floor length, but there is no reason why you shouldn't choose something shorter - ankle, mid-calf or just below the knee length - if you prefer. Your shape and height will also need to be taken into account, so that the style you choose is flattering, and accentuates your best points.
You will need to decide on the length of the veil, and whether or not to have a long train - probably not a good idea in winter, when the weather may be damp.
Dress materials are many and varied, with man-made fabrics being more crease-resistant then pure silk or satin. You will want to arrive at the church looking fresh and uncreased, so consider this when choosing your dress fabric, and the size of your car!
You can discuss all these details at the bridal shop, or with your dress designer. Be guided by their experience, but remember that the final choice is yours - this is your day!
